Accept voter documents on WhatsApp, verify at homes if needed: Maharashtra poll body to BLOs
India’s Maharashtra State Election Commission has instructed Booth Level Officers to receive voter identification documents through WhatsApp as part of the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) process. Officials may also conduct in‑person verification at voters’ homes when required. Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam issued the directive, extending the SIR exercise timeline, with the claims and objections deadline moved to October 12.
