India to have more elderly people later this century as fertility falls, age structure shifts: Moody’s
Moody’s Investors Service reports that India’s birth rate has already dropped beneath the level needed to maintain the population, joining a global trend where average fertility fell from 4.9 children per woman in 1950 to roughly 2.2 today. The agency projects that the declining fertility will cause a rise in the proportion of older adults in India by the end of the century.
