Of those deleted in SIR so far, over 71% in ‘absent, shifted or others’ category
India’s Election Commission has removed about 9.5 crore names from the electoral rolls under the ‘absent, shifted or others’ category during the Statewise Information Retrieval (SIR) process. More than 71% of those deleted fall into this group. Officials say many of these voters may be reinstated once the SIR review is finished in the upcoming elections.
