Tamil Nadu among pronounced drought hotspots as South Peninsular India sees strongest drought trend: study
Research published in The Hindu indicates that Tamil Nadu is now one of the most severe drought‑affected areas in South Peninsular India, which exhibits the continent’s steepest increase in drought frequency. The study notes that before the 1990s under 10 % of the region experienced drought, while after 2000 many years saw over 40 % of the area under drought conditions.
