Keralam’s 24×7 specialty care rollout falters amid political pushback
The Kerala health department’s initiative to provide round‑the‑clock specialty services in general and district hospitals is encountering difficulties. The only pilot, Punalur taluk hospital, cannot maintain 24‑hour care because of a shortage of doctors and resistance from local politicians. The scheme depends on creating many new specialist positions, a request that the state finance department has not yet approved.
