Former Chief Election Commissioner questions legality of SIR, demands reversal of decisions
Former chief election commissioner S.Y. Quraishi criticised the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, calling its necessity, legality and execution questionable. He noted that India’s voter lists have been effectively maintained for decades and warned the exercise could cause disruptions. Quraishi urged the government to reverse the decisions related to the SIR process and to reconsider its scope.
