Decoding 2 crore deletions in Maharashtra’s draft electoral roll after state-wide SIR

Following a state-wide Summary of Issues Report, Maharashtra’s draft electoral roll saw about 20 million entries removed. Roughly 7.5 million of those deletions were classified as ‘absent or untraceable’, representing around 37 % of the total. More than a third of all deletions occurred in Thane district, accounting for over 38 % of the removals. The Hindu reported the figures, noting the extensive cleanup ahead of the upcoming elections.
