Torpedo jar fragment, ring wells found in underwater archaeological exploration off the Poompuhar coast in Mayiladuthurai district
Archaeologists from Tamil Nadu’s State Department of Archaeology, during the third phase of an underwater survey off the Poompuhar coast in Mayiladuthurai district, uncovered a fragment of a torpedo jar thought to have originated in West Asia during the early historic era. They also identified four circular ring wells, each about 60‑65 cm across, implying a former paleochannel at the site.
