Day before 2023 Manipur violence started, political settlement was discussed with govt., says insurgent group
According to UPF spokesperson Aron Kipgen, a political settlement had been discussed with the Indian government before the violence in Manipur began on May 3, 2023. He says that the subsequent mass displacement and separation of the Kuki‑Zo and Meitei communities changed the basis of earlier negotiations. The group claims the settlement was undermined by the outbreak.
