Passports for children below 15 years valid for 5 years or till they turn 18: MEA amends rules
India's Ministry of External Affairs has issued the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, revising the 1980 regulations. Under the changes, passports issued to applicants younger than 15 will be valid for five years or until the holder reaches 18, whichever comes first. The amendment aims to align passport validity with the age of minor travelers in India.
