Panchayats facing crisis as material costs for MGNREGS in previous financial year yet to be disbursed
State panchayats are reporting a financial crunch because the material expenses incurred under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for the last fiscal year have not yet been released. The pending payments total more than ₹500 crore, leaving local bodies unable to settle supplier invoices and threatening the continuation of ongoing works. Officials say the delay hampers rural employment delivery.
