DMK govt. mooted heritage structure in place of King’s Barracks at Fort St. George
The DMK government proposed a multi‑storeyed heritage building on the former King’s Barracks site in Fort St. George, Chennai. The plan stalled because defence authorities, who still control the property, denied approval. The deteriorating structure remains under military control, preventing redevelopment and leaving the historic site in a state of neglect and its cultural significance remains unaddressed.
