Bescom loses 16,749 transformers in seven months
Bombay Electricity Supply Co. (Bescom) reported the loss of 16,749 transformers over the past seven months. The utility says it has been discarding roughly 40,000 transformers annually since 2023, attributing the failures to overload, lightning strikes, aging equipment, short‑circuit incidents and defects in manufacturing. The figure highlights ongoing reliability challenges for the power grid in India.
