Bescom loses 16,749 transformers in seven months
Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) reported the loss of 16,749 power transformers over the past seven months, contributing to an annual shortfall of roughly 40,000 units since 2023. The utility attributes the failures to factors such as overload, lightning strikes, aging equipment, short‑circuit incidents and defects in manufacturing, highlighting ongoing reliability challenges for the grid.
