Study on Keralam ELSA-3 shipwreck shows persistent nurdle pollution, evolving ecological impacts

An assessment by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, carried out through the Suganthi Devadason Marine Research Institute in Thoothukudi, examined the aftermath of the May 2025 Keralam ELSA‑3 shipwreck. The study found that nurdle plastic residues remain widespread and that ecological effects are shifting over time, prompting both rapid short‑term and two‑year long‑term monitoring programmes.
