Govt. bars bank charges on payments up to ₹2,000 via UPI, RuPay-powered debit cards
The Indian government has amended the Payment and Settlement Act of 2007 to prohibit banks from levying any fees on transactions of up to ₹2,000 made through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) or using RuPay‑linked debit cards. The notification aims to reduce cost barriers for small‑value digital payments and promote wider adoption of electronic transactions across the country.
