Tamil Nadu government identifies three sites for the new Assembly-Secretariat complex in Chennai
Tamil Nadu's current administration has shortlisted three locations in Chennai for a new combined Assembly and Secretariat building. The government plans to select a site by mid‑September. Earlier, former chief ministers Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi also explored relocating the Secretariat from its historic Fort St. George premises, but those proposals did not materialise. The decision follows a long‑standing debate over the capital's administrative layout.
