India gains wider EU steel access, but carbon levy remains
India has secured broader access to the European Union’s steel market under a new trade deal, receiving an extra preferential quota of roughly 695,000 tonnes in addition to the existing WTO‑allocated 947,000 tonnes. While the arrangement expands import opportunities, the EU’s carbon border levy on steel will still apply, maintaining the environmental cost for Indian exporters.
