The proposal to relocate Tamil Nadu’s Assembly‑Secretariat has been debated for decades. An order in 1983 under MGR called for a new Secretariat building, but the plan was shelved. Around 2003, Jayalalithaa suggested an administrative city near Mamallapuram. When Karunanidhi returned in 2006, he completed the complex at the Omandurar Estate, reigniting calls for relocation.
