I build a mechanical watch face: a real gear train for a watch with no gears
A hobbyist engineered a watch face that incorporates a functional gear train, yet the timekeeping mechanism itself contains no traditional gears. Using 3D‑printed components and a small stepper motor, the visible gears rotate to indicate hours and minutes, creating a purely aesthetic mechanical display on a digital watch. The project’s design files and build notes are shared online.
