306 killed, 49 missing in ethnic violence since May 2023: Manipur Home Minister tells Assembly
Manipur’s home minister reported to the state assembly that ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki‑Zo groups have resulted in 306 deaths and 49 people still missing since the violence began on May 3, 2023. The unrest followed a tribal solidarity march in the hills protesting the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribes status. He said the conflict has displaced thousands and strained relations across the state.
