Gauhati High Court seeks clarity on rehab for evicted people in Assam
The Gauhati High Court has asked the Assam government to explain how it will provide rehabilitation for roughly 650 families, mainly migrant Muslims, who were evicted in September 2024 from the Sonapur area of Kamrup Metropolitan district. The evictions were carried out to clear 100 bighas of land designated as tribal territory. The court seeks details on compensation, resettlement and legal safeguards.
