
How valuable are mangroves? Study on Pichavaram ecosystem pegs it at ₹2,485.38 crore
Researchers evaluated the Pichavaram mangrove forest in Tamil Nadu and assigned it an economic worth of roughly ₹2,485.38 crore. The valuation considered the ecosystem’s provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural services, such as fisheries, coastal protection, carbon storage and tourism. The study highlights the substantial contribution of mangroves to ecological sustainability and local livelihoods and regional development.
