Supreme Court dismisses gangster Abu Salem’s plea claiming completion of 25-year prison term

India’s Supreme Court rejected a petition by former underworld figure Abu Salem, who argued that his sentence should end after serving 25 years. Salem, extradited from Portugal in 2005 for his role in the 1993 Mumbai bombings, claimed the government had assured he would not be held longer. The court found no basis to terminate his imprisonment.
