Three-language scheme: Centre in SC has an ‘issue’ over treating English as ‘native’, but assures quick action on Class 6 reprieve
The government has responded to a Supreme Court concern that the three‑language policy treats English as a native language. It said it will act swiftly to grant a reprieve to the current Class 6 cohort, who were set to face full implementation of the scheme, including a compulsory third‑language board exam by 2031. Students in Classes 7‑9 remain exempt under CBSE rules.
