UK government pays highest interest rate on 30-year bond since 1998
Britain’s Treasury has issued a 30‑year bond at the highest yield recorded since 1998, pushing long‑term rates to new highs. The spike in interest costs threatens to erode roughly half of the £24 billion of fiscal headroom that Finance Secretary John Healey had planned for the upcoming budget. The move could constrain spending and force adjustments to fiscal targets.
