Southern India has grown wetter over seven decades, finds IMD study

A recent Indian Meteorological Department study shows that over the past 70 years, southern India has become significantly wetter. The region's hot semi‑arid areas have shrunk by about half, largely converting into tropical savannah climates. Conversely, north‑west India has experienced increased dryness and higher temperatures. The shift reflects changing precipitation patterns and rising temperatures across the peninsula.
