NHRC asks State, UGC to draw up plan to address Delhi University hostel shortage
India’s National Human Rights Commission has urged the Delhi government and the University Grants Commission to develop a strategy to remedy the shortage of university hostels. The commission, acting on a 2025 grievance filed by a non‑profit, noted that Delhi University’s 72,000 undergraduates lack sufficient on‑campus accommodation, forcing many to rent private rooms, which raises expenses and affects student welfare.
