Inland waterway proposed to link Kottayam port with Vizhinjam
The government is planning a 180‑kilometre inland waterway connecting the Kottayam inland port with the southern seaport of Vizhinjam. The route, which will include seventeen bridges, is designed to keep a depth of about two metres, allowing container barges to travel the stretch in roughly twelve to fourteen hours. Officials say the corridor will offer an inland link, easing road congestion and lowering freight costs.
