Population census to be conducted from January 25 to February 28 except in snow-bound and poll-bound States
India will conduct its national population census from January 25 to February 28, 2027, with a reference date of midnight on March 1. The census will not take place in Manipur, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, or Jammu and Kashmir, due to snow or political constraints. The government announced the schedule to a count, but will skip the listed states because of logistical challenges posed by snowfall and elections.
