Electrocution behind 32 of 49 elephant deaths in Andhra’s Chittoor since 2015
Since 2015, 32 of the 49 recorded elephant fatalities in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district have been linked to electrocution from low‑hanging power lines. In response, district collector Sumit Kumar has directed that 150 identified high‑risk locations have their power lines corrected within a month, aiming to reduce further wildlife deaths. Conservationists have urged faster infrastructure upgrades.
