Telangana spotlight: Women blast through the mining barriers
Women at Telangana’s state‑run Singareni Collieries are now performing duties once reserved for men, including managing explosives, fixing heavy mining machinery, overseeing underground work and learning to operate 100‑ton dump trucks. The shift follows recent amendments to the Mines Act that broadened eligibility. Nonetheless, female staff still face hurdles such as safety concerns, gender bias and the physically demanding nature of the jobs.
