Jailhouse rock, the ‘others’ in the dock
Authorities in Odisha detained a physician who works in tribal regions, accusing him of backing protests against bauxite mining. Although his name and those of other activists were absent from the formal complaint, police placed them under a vague ‘others’ classification. Adivasi and Dalit groups, represented by Satyasundar Barik, say the arrests are intended to intimidate community leaders.
