Human deaths in wild elephant attacks in Keralam decline marginally; 4 kumki squads to be set up
Kerala's forest department reported that fatalities from wild elephant attacks have fallen slightly over the past five years, with a modest reduction in injuries as well. In response, the state plans to create four kumki squads—teams of trained elephants—to help mitigate future human‑elephant conflicts. The data were presented during a recent legislative session in the state assembly.
