Melting glaciers in Dolomites reveal cache of first world war munitions
Rising temperatures have caused ice in Italy’s Dolomite mountains to melt, exposing a cache of World I ammunition that had been frozen for more than a century. After hikers reported the find, the Italian army dispatched bomb disposal units, which safely removed and neutralised roughly 250 explosive devices still encased in the glacier ice in the region.
