Retired judges lobby hard to get appointed as arbitrators in high value commercial disputes, says Justice N. Anand Venkatesh
Justice N. Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court said retired judges are actively seeking appointments as arbitrators in high‑value commercial cases. He observed that only a small number of current judges have the necessary expertise to handle matters under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act of 1996, and warned that rotating the arbitration docket among judges every three months could delay the delivery of justice.
