A distant Pacific phenomenon may be drying India’s north, says study
Researchers from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology report that a Pacific oceanic cycle known as “Victoria Mode” is reducing moisture transport to north‑west India. Their study finds the region’s semi‑arid zones are expanding, potentially threatening agricultural output and prompting population displacement. They say reduced precipitation may harm crops and trigger migration in vulnerable districts.
