Dayanidhi Maran flags concerns about proposed Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2026; urges Centre for a review
Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran wrote to the government expressing concerns over the draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules, 2026. He asked the Centre to withdraw the current version and conduct a review with independent animal‑welfare experts, scientists, veterinarians, research bodies and civil‑society groups. He warned that the draft could undermine existing protections and urged that any new framework balance scientific needs with humane treatment.
