Telangana plans 14-month foodgrain buffer to cover over 3 crore people amid El Niño threat

Telangana's government announced a plan to create a 14‑month foodgrain reserve aimed at feeding more than 30 million residents as the region faces an El Niño‑related drought risk. The state currently holds about 2.8 million tonnes of rice, sufficient for roughly 11.7 months, and is evaluating the inclusion of wheat flour and other staples in the public distribution system, according to Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.
