The Howdah Bearers | Mysuru's Dasara elephants
Mysuru’s annual Dasara celebrations will feature a new elephant to carry the ceremonial howdah after the tradition of royal riders ended in 1969. While kings no longer ride, the elephants have continued to bear the ornate seat each year. Officials selected the next animal from a herd, continuing the historic procession that draws thousands of spectators.
