Prior nod to probe bribe demand by police personnel not needed under anti-graft law: Supreme Court
India’s Supreme Court ruled that a prior approval is unnecessary to investigate police officers accused of demanding bribes, stating the anti‑corruption law already authorises such probes. The observation came from a two‑judge bench comprising Justices S.V.N. Bhatti and N.V. Anjaria in a judgment delivered on October 16. Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, inquiries can start without any prior sanction, easing prosecutions.
