From Syama Prasad Mookerjee to Vande Mataram, Lord Ram: Themes dominating Durga Puja this year
This year’s Durga Puja celebrations in Bengal feature a mix of political, patriotic and mythological themes. Statues and pandals depict figures such as Syama Prasad Mookerjee, the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, alongside traditional motifs like Vande Mataram and Lord Ram. The blend reflects a trend of integrating contemporary political icons with classical Hindu narratives in the festival’s visual displays.
