WRD begins removal of invasive plants from irrigation tanks along Palar River in Vellore
The Water Resources Department (WRD) has started clearing invasive plant species from irrigation tanks along the Palar River in Vellore. Officials noted that, on average, about 15 tonnes of these plants accumulate per acre of tank. The removal aims to improve water quality and reduce maintenance costs, as the invasive growth hampers irrigation efficiency. The effort is part of a initiative to restore river health.
