MIT class project turns into an FDA-cleared treatment for tremors
MIT students created a wearable that monitors and reduces tremors during a class project. After iterative testing and refinement, the prototype met U.S. Food and Drug Administration safety and efficacy standards. It received FDA clearance, enabling marketing as a treatment for essential tremor and other movement disorders. The project shows how academic research can become a regulated medical product.
