Jantar Mantar: From astronomical observatory to landmark protest site

Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, located in India's capital and originally called Yantra Mantra, was constructed in the early 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur after a request from Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah. Designed as an astronomical observatory, the stone instruments now serve as a historic monument and a frequent gathering point for public demonstrations and political protests.
