Manipur groups call shutdown against State’s 1949 merger with India
Seven banned militant outfits, primarily representing Manipur's Meitei community, have announced a 12‑hour shutdown on Oct. 15, labeling it “National Black Day.” The groups contend that the state’s 1949 merger with India breaches both international norms and Indian constitutional provisions. The shutdown is intended to protest what they describe as an illegal annexation and demand a reassessment of the political arrangement.
