Honour for two veteran craftsmen of a vanishing trade in Keralam’s Malappuram
Veteran timber‑sawing artisans Moideenkutty and Mohammedkutty of Malappuram, Kerala, were honored for preserving the region’s declining wood‑cutting tradition. The ceremony also recognized Puchangal Abubacker, who safeguarded a historic long saw. Officials highlighted the need to pass these fading skills to younger generations. The event, organized by the state’s cultural department, aimed to raise awareness and encourage support for artisans keeping the craft alive.
