Tribal Special Development Councils non-functional in Odisha, say vice-chairpersons
Vice‑chairpersons of Odisha’s Tribal Special Development Councils (SDCs) report that the bodies, set up in 23 districts to safeguard the culture and heritage of 64 tribal groups with a combined population of about 84 lakh, remain largely inactive. Officials say the councils have not held meetings, lack funding, and have no functional status, undermining their intended role in strengthening tribal identity.
