Live-streamed proceedings not meant for commercial gain, reiterates Supreme Court
India’s Supreme Court clarified that a rule prohibiting commercial exploitation of live‑streamed court proceedings does not constitute a gag order or limit public access to the broadcasts or related reporting. Chief Justice Surya Kant emphasized that the restriction targets profit‑driven use, while allowing individuals and media to view and cover the proceedings freely in India without hindrance.
