IISc study says strong magnetic fields could allow white dwarfs to grow beyond the Chandrasekhar limit
Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science have shown that exceptionally strong magnetic fields can provide additional pressure inside white dwarf stars, allowing them to surpass the Chandrasekhar mass limit. Their theoretical analysis indicates that magnetic support could let these stars grow heavier than previously thought, which may affect understanding of certain supernovae and stellar evolution.
